UKCLE: celebrating ten years

2010 sees the 10th anniversary of the Higher Education Academy’s subject centre network. We are taking the opportunity to reflect on developments in legal education over the past ten years and prospects for the future – see our ‘Visions’ resources below.

Back to the (academic) future – a short film capturing the opinions of leading legal education scholars and practitioners about the past, present and future of legal education in the UK – view the film and download a copy to use in staff development events

Two sessions at Learning in Law 2010, UKCLE’s annual conference in January, explored the way forward:

  • The student perspective on the challenges ahead for the UK higher education systemkeynote address by Aaron Porter (NUS) examining the importance of the learner voice followed by Q&A – the address was streamed live and you can view a video of the session
  • a discussion panel made up of Roger Burridge (University of Warwick), Melissa Hardee (Hardee Consulting) and Chris Maguire (BPP Law School), chaired by Avrom Sherr (Institute of Advanced Legal Studies), reviewed the three main challenges facing legal education over the next 10 years and attempted to highlight what needs to change to meet these challenges – read Paul Maharg’s blog post on the session together with delegates’ views on the challenges and changes

On 12 February 2010 Lord Mandelson gave a keynote speech at the Lord Dearing Memorial Conference, setting out the government’s ‘vision’ for higher education – hear the questions and answers at the end of the speech by downloading the audio file.
